Past, present and future video

The local podcasting scene is growing at a rapid rate! We can see this in the 18th issue of TAP Magazine. So this months panel discussion sees Rutendo Nyamuda (The Podcast Sessions) and Gavin Kennedy (Solid Gold Podcasts) share insights as well as tips and tricks for new and seasoned podcasters.

Keep an eye on The Podcast Catalyst website and our Linkedin page for the video in which we discuss the past, the present and the future of South African podcasting.

With the 2023 France Rugby World Cup kick off this week, we couldn’t miss the opportunity to showcase a scrum of rugby related podcasts. We passed the ball down the line to Harry Jones, Brendan Nel and Peter Stemmet and got their impressions ahead of the sporting showpiece. Here is what they had to say in response to our questions -

Which Rugby World Cup 2023 team do you think will be the most dangerous on the field?

“I think until the last round of warmup matches I would have said the host nation, France. I still fully expect them to be there or thereabouts come the final. They're a great all round team but right now I have to include South Africa. The Springboks were excellent against New Zealand and looked formidable. The Boks are going to be dangerous at this World Cup, for sure!” - Peter Stemmet - Front Row Rugby

“South Africa may have No Am but England has No Arms; forget tries, the Poms will triage Paris ERs.” - Harry Jones - The Roar Rugby Podcast

“To be honest, I'd say South Africa because... Well, they might have the toughest draw and they might have a real tough road ahead of them. The Springboks are the one team that can play knockout rugby exceptionally well. And they're very good at what they do and they're very purpose-minded. Other than that, I think the French, depending on if they can handle the pressure, would probably be the biggest threat to the Springboks there.” - Brendan Nel - To The Last Drop

Which player heading to the RWC in France is the most exciting to watch?

“Antoine Dupont for me is the best rugby player in the world right now and I fully expect him to play an influential role in this World Cup. I'd like to single out a South African player too and if we are to go all the way again I suspect Malcolm Marx might be our main man - a potential player of the tournament” - Peter Stemmet - Front Row Rugby

“Sad about Pollard’s meniscus and Elton’s missus, but it gives us Manie Libbok’s swerving, curving, searing playmaker style.” - Harry Jones - The Roar Rugby Podcast

“There are so many exciting players out there, but I suppose the one everybody wants to see is Antoine de Pont, the two-time World Rugby Player of the Year. He's obviously the name on everybody's lips and being in his home country is going to be the center of attention there.” Brendan Nel - To The Last Drop

DYK: the original Lady Rugga, South Africa’s very own Elma Smit, now residing in London, is a host on The Good, The Scaz and The Rugby? Now in season 3, the podcast is well worth a listen as the women’s game gains more and more traction.
