Hello pod buddies,

Did you know this is the 6th issue of TPC? Time flies when you’re making and listening to podcasts. 🎉

Thank you again to everyone that responded to my “And I thank you” emailer. So far Linkedin is leading that poll.

August is Women’s Month in South Africa and in this issue we go behind the scenes of Legally Clueless with Adelle Onyango who has built a thriving business out of her podcast. BTW Adelle was selected as one of 2017's BBC100 Women and one of OkayAfrica's Top Women of 2018.

📢 Under The Hood Of Legally Clueless

Say hello to Adelle Onyango, founder of Legally Clueless Africa.

Adelle started her podcast, Legally Clueless in 2019. That same year, she was one of only two Kenyans included in the Africa Youth Awards' 100 Most Influential Young Africans in 2019.

Born in Botswana, Adelle studied journalism and psychology at United States International University Africa, where she specialized in public relations.

I asked Adelle about the microphone she first used to start her podcast; what being syndicated to Trace East Africa entails; when she realised she had a business on her hands; and of course, what she is currently listening to.

🤗 How to make your intro even better

Where should your CTA go? How impactful is imaging? And what exactly makes a good podcast introduction? I sat down with Paulo Dias, Nicole Engelbrecht and Terence Mentor to discuss all of this and more.

😲 Tech and Tools

  • I might be in love. The Nomono Sound Capsule caught my attention in 2022 and won the 2023 SXSW Innovation Award in Audio. Manufactured in Jaren, Norway, Robert in their PR team says distribution to Africa is not currently on the cards. I still think you should know about this incredible gadget. See it here.

  • While we are on the subject of things that make the content creation process easier, one of my fav’s for remote recording is Riverside.FM
I’ve used it to capture high quality audio AND video interviews for Formula for Success, The Expansive and Some Assembly Required. Just last month they introduced a new featured called Magic Clips. The new AI tool clips your long form video recording into short form videos in just the click of a button, saving you tons of time when making videos for TikTok, Instagram or YouTube Shorts. ( previously I used Opus Clips for this) You can add or remove captions, change orientations and even add an image or colour background. It is well worth checking out!

  • Podcasts are coming to TikTok! But we’ve known this for sometime already. Back in October 2022, podcast hosting company Audiomeans told Podnews that it spotted a new bot scraping their feeds. They tracked the bot back to TikTok. More recently some podcasters have received notifications (like the one below) with details of how to add podcast feeds to TikTok via RSS. Do you use TikTok for your podcast?

Bonus joke: How many podcasters does it take to change a light bulb?
One. But to fully understand why, we have to first travel back in time to the year 1880... 😉😂
